Blackheath Halls Opera is thrilled to present a production of Leonard Bernstein’s extraordinary operetta Candide, first performed in 1956, but based on a 1759 comic novella by the French philosopher Voltaire.

In a production updated to the 1980s, it tells the story of the hectic adventures and extravagant escapades of a young man, travelling through a divided Europe (and beyond), in search of love, happiness and resolution.

This performance brings together a cast of world-class professional singers, talented vocal students from Trinity Laban and committed local amateur performers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, united in their passion for music-making.
