Trinity explores works for ensemble and spoken word, with two of the best-known examples juxtaposed with student responses and the moving, Bear Child by Canadian composer Alan Bell, which explores the life of frontiersman Jerry Potts.

We are delighted to be able to present a series of four pre-concert talks this evening. Given by Canadian academics and the composer of one of the pieces performed this evening, the running order is as follows:
6.00pm Tanya Harnett – Navigating through Canadian Colonization into a Post-Colonial ideology: an Artist’s Family’s Journey
With a strong footing in the heritage of her family’s past, Harnett explores themes of what it means to be a First Nations Canadian artist
6.20pm Brian Black – The Life & Times of Jerry Potts
Brian Black talks about the Canadian frontiersman and inspiration for Bear Child
6.40pm Fred Stenson
A talk from the Alberta-based writer
7.00pm Allan Bell
The composer discusses his piece, Bear Child, receiving its European premiere tonight
